Settlement of disputes. Safety in construction.

Course Objectives:
This course is designed to teach legal applications in construction works. The objective of the course is to give basic information to students on regulations and laws that are of interest to civil engineers and to familiarize them with the legal documents to be kept on sites.

Syllabus:
1. General information about construction activities and industry.
2. Laws and administrative rules with special emphasis on Code of Obligations.
3. Documents contained in a contract file, types of contracts and contractorship licenses, application for a contractorship license, certificate of eligibility, contractorship records.
4. Bidding Act. No: 2886, bid bond and performance bond calculations, advertisement, awarding a contract, general and penalty clauses, statue of limitation.
5. Control regulations war Public Works. Duties, responsibilities and rights of head of the control organization, chief control engineer and control engineer.
6. General specifications for Public Works.
7. Hand-over report, work scheduling, building permits, work amounts more or less than contract value.
8. Technical specifications.
9. Site book, sketch book, attachment book, bill of quantities, surveyor's book and time-keeping book.
10. Preparation of monthly payments. Calculation of unit price differences in productions and materials.
11. Provisory acceptance, bond period and final acceptance.
12. Final account and payment, return of performance bonds.
13. Settlement of disputes.
14. Safety in construction.
