Catalog Description:
Site investigations, retaining structures, excavations, dewatering, shallow foundation design, bearing capacity, settlement, stress distribution in soils, initial settlement, consolidation settlement, permissible settlement, deep foundation design, bearing capacity, settlement, types of piles, ground improvement.

Course Objectives:
The course is aimed at introducing the basic principles of foundation design of civil engineering structures to civil engineering students. Some theoretical background information is also given in addition to the fundamental concepts explained CE 363 Soil Mechanics.
