Catalog Description:
An orientation
course to provide counseling to the students on the major areas of Civil
Engineering including information on typical activity of civil engineers,
integrated course sequences and content, and an introduction of the faculty.
Professional engineering practice.
Engineering ethics,
professional
responsibilities,
health and safety considerations.
Oral and written
engineering communication.
Course Objectives:
• To introduce to the students what engineering and civil engineering are
• To introduce them what courses they will study in civil engineering department
at METU
• To advice them how to be successful with the courses
• To introduce them the history of engineering, relating especially to civil
engineering
• To explain them the importance of professional responsibilities and
engineering ethics
• To emphasize the importance of communication, report writing and computer
usage.
